On Thursday, 14 October 2024, the Faculty of Political Science at the University of Belgrade hosted a delegation of students from VIA University College, Denmark. Led by Prof. Dr. Carsten Linding Jakobsen, an expert in social science and history with a focus on EU education and sustainability, the visit provided a platform for academic exchange and cross-cultural dialogue.
The guests were warmly welcomed by Dr. Marko Kovačević, Assistant Professor, and MSc Tijana Rečević, Teaching Assistant, representing the Center for International Studies (CIS), along with students from the MA Peace, Security, and Development program at FPS.
Dr. Kovačević delivered an engaging introductory lecture on the contemporary political and security dynamics in the Western Balkans, placing special emphasis on Serbia’s foreign policy. The lecture sparked a lively discussion, where both Serbian and Danish students shared insights on the geopolitical challenges facing small states in Europe, drawing parallels between Serbia and Denmark’s contemporary and historical roles on the global stage.
The conversation expanded beyond politics, delving into youth perspectives and experiences in Serbia and the broader region. Danish students shared their impressions of life in Serbia, highlighting the importance of such exchanges in fostering understanding and collaboration.
The visit underscored the Centre’s commitment to international engagement and provided valuable insights for all participants, fostering mutual learning and strengthening academic ties between the two institutions.
